Five tips to protect you from the Coronavirus.

In January 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new disease (COVID-19) in Hubei Province, China. Since then, the virus has spread to other countries around the world.  According to WHO, following these five steps will greatly reduce the chances of contracting and/or spreading the virus, and will keep you as healthy as possible.

1.       Keep surfaces clean and hygienic

Regularly wipe down surfaces with disinfectants, such as countertops, phones, iPhone’s, tablets, computers, tv remotes, light switches, desks, chairs and tables, and bathroom faucets.

2.       Keep your distance.

The Coronavirus is believed to spread through cough and sneeze droplets. Droplets of saliva or mucus are released each time someone coughs or sneezes which can fall on people in the vicinity. These droplets can then either be directly inhaled or picked up by people’s hands, and then can be  transferred to the person’s face through touch.

3.       Be careful what you touch

The Coronavirus is also believed to be spread through droplets landing on surfaces, such as elevator buttons, handles, and stair railings, and then being picked up on the hands of people and transferred to these people when touching ones face.

4.       Cover when you cough or sneeze

Get in the habit of throwing the tissue in the bin and washing your hands every time you cough or sneeze. If you are coughing or sneezing into your elbow, washing your hands is encouraged. Do not sneeze into your hands.

5.       Wash your hands

Wet your hands with clean, running water and apply soap, lathering the hands, including the back, fingers, and nails, for at least 20 seconds. This length of time is the amount of time it takes to sing happy birthday twice.
